The next steps will see the eSafety Commissioner developing a roadmap for bringing in the mandatory age verification of online pornography sites. The standards and legislation underpinning the age verification services will be developed via collaborative consultation with industry, government and the general public.

Today’s announcement is a big step in the right direction for our children, and parents and carers will soon be able to feel their kids are more protected as access to online pornography becomes more difficult. However, we know that age verification is not a silver bullet. Filtering, child settings, comprehensive sex and relationships education—as well as important conversations—are key to supporting our kids’ against the potential harms of pornography.
